Rainbow colored Khan-Atlas fro Uzbekistan
The story behind this beautiful multi-colored fabric called Khan-Atlas is very touching.
In the old times, a ruler of a city in current day Uzbekistan wanted to take the fifth wife. His eye fell on a daughter of a poor weaver, who begged him not to take his daughter. The ruler answered "If you can weave such a beautiful fabric by tomorrow that I can forget about your daughter's beauty, I will reconsider". The weaver didn't know what to do and sat - where he suddenly saw the reflecion of clouds with rainbow.
He took this inspiration and wove an airy light and gorgeous silk fabric, which he took to the ruler next day. The ruler was so impressed that he married the daughter to the beloved son instead!
The beautiful fabric is used for various products such as place mats and coasters.
