In Japan, there is a tradition to eat seven herb rice porridge on the 7th January. This custom originated in China and came to Japanese royal court in 8th-9th century, which was then spread to common people around 17th century.
This custom is conducted with a wish of good health for all the family members as well as a good harvest during the year.
It is a tradition to eat this porridge on the morning of the 7th January, however, you can also eat it in the evening.
